Valentine’s Day: How to Buy for Him

Wondering What To Get Him For Valentine’s Day?

Learn How To Buy For Him

Are you trying to figure out what to get him for Valentine’s Day? You aren’t alone! Many of us have a hard time buying for our guys. We know we want to buy or do something to show him how much we care, but WHAT?

Believe it or not, there does come a time when the “big red bow and a smile gift” gets old. It’s always welcome, but there is more to giving a great gift. In general, guys aren’t often interested in the sentimental things that a lot of women are. Don’t get me wrong! Some men appreciate the nice, sweet, sentimental things that many ladies find so endearing. However, it’s not these gentlemen that women find it difficult to buy or do for. It’s the other hard working, strong, silent, practical types that can really send us into a maddening search for a Valentine’s Day gift. Below are a few helpful things you will want to keep in mind when deciding on a gift for your “him.”

  • Favorite “Whos and Whats” - Would he rather go fishing, watch a ball game, or read a book? You really should know or find out what he enjoys doing. Who are his favorite sports stars, actors, authors? It’s important to keep up to date on these because sometimes their favorites change. For instance, just because he used to like Jeff Gordon doesn’t mean he still does so you’ll need to listen to him carefully. Once you know the basics, you can get him something related to one of his “favorites.”
  • Gadgets and Gear - What sort of gadgets does he like? Most of the men that I know love some type of gizmo. Whether it’s power tools, fishing equipment, video game accessories, or computer/tech gear, there is usually a neat little doodad that they will think is cool and will appreciate as a gift. Focus on something he likes and then check out the newest gadgets and gear in that area.
  • Sentimental or Humorous - Does he stumble over sentimental words? As stated before, many of our sweethearts have a hard time stating what or how they feel. If your guy is like this, why not give him a humorous gift that pokes a little fun at love? That way, he won’t feel like he’s on the spot to gush over something that makes him feel slightly uncomfortable AND the two of you can have a great laugh together. What a nice gift…laughter!
  • Clothing - Does your guy hate to shop? If so then clothing would probably be a greatly appreciated gift! Be sure to keep his style and color preferences in mind. Don’t get caught up in the “he would look great in this” mode of thought. Just because you think he would look good in something doesn’t mean he would like to have or wear it.

The bottom line is buy or do something for your guy that HE will think is cool, special or thoughtful. It’s easy to fall into the trap where you get something because YOU like it. Ask yourself, “Would he be proud to show this off to his friends?” If the answer is no then put it back on the shelf unless it’s a private item that just the two of you will share.
