Summer is a good time to have this event for several reasons. The weather is usually nice. All of the kids are out of school. Your employees have likely been thinking about taking some time off. Keep speeches short. Although this is a company sponsored function, spouses, significant others, and children do not want to hear about business. The only exception to this is if a few employees are being recognized for something special. Everyone is here to relax so do everything you can to help them do just that.

Dress casually. Make sure that everyone knows to dress casually. Executives sometimes have a problem with this because even their casual clothes can tend to have that “executive look.” By having everyone dress in a t-shirt and shorts or jeans, you are reinforcing the idea that everyone is on the same team. This also helps employees to view executives as equals instead of as taskmasters who are out of the loop.

Make it a weekend event. For some families, it may be a major task to get all the kids loaded in the car and to the event’s location. Consider turning this outing into a weekend event. This will allow everyone to have a great time and rest up before they drive home the next day.

By keeping these things in mind when planning your family fun day, you are bound to have a successful event. Your employees will be more relaxed. The families will feel appreciated. Everyone will be in a better frame of mind. What more can you ask from a company event?
