Company Events: Family Fun Day – Planning The Menu
You’ve decided to plan a company family fun day. You’ve chosen the location and now it’s time to think about the menu. Here are a few things to consider as you make your food and menu plans.
A refrigerator or cooler is a must! Depending on how you arrange things, you could need a cool place to store food before and after the meal. Since there will be a lot of outdoor activities planned, you will also need a cool place to store beverages for your employees and their family members.
We have found that the best way to keep the drinks cold and handy is by icing them down in several coolers. The coolers are then placed in strategic places throughout the area. This ensures that your employees and their families stay hydrated as they participate in the fun activities.
Keep the menu simple. The simpler you keep the meal, the more time there is for fun and relaxation. A cheap and quick menu could include a variety of sandwiches, hamburgers and hotdogs, pickles, chips, dip, and fresh raw veggies.
If you want to make the meal a little more substantial, you can go with a standard picnic menu. This could consist of items such as fried chicken, barbecue, potato salad, coleslaw, green beans, etc. Be sure to serve a variety of vegetables, raw or cooked, in case there are people who don’t or can’t eat meat.
Consider the kids. Keep in mind the special needs and likes of the employee’s children. Most parents would like to reduce their children’s intake of things such as carbonated drinks, drinks with caffeine, An example of this would be fried chicken, barbecue, hamburgers, and hotdogs. You may also want to consider having special beverages for the children. Drinks to consider for children could include milk, soy milk, a variety of fruit juices, and of course, water. Moms and Dads will appreciate the fact that you have something on the menu that is especially for their little darlings.
Who’s cooking? For this summer event, you will probably want to hire someone to do the cooking for you. By hiring a caterer, you ensure that the food is prepared/ stored according to health standards and no one will get “stuck” on grill duty. A good caterer will also clean up after the meal and store the leftovers for you.
Make clean-up easy. Adding trashcans throughout the entire area will help keep trash off the ground and make clean-up easier. Make sure there are several large, lined trashcans in the eating area. You will want to also enlist the help of someone to check on the trashcans throughout the day.
When planning the menu for your event, keep these suggestions in mind. By addressing these items early, you will be less likely to be surprised by the unexpected. The more organized your event planning is, the more successful the event will be.
