Company Events: Family Fun Day – Planning The Menu

You’ve decided to plan a company family fun day. You’ve chosen the location and now it’s time to think about the menu. Here are a few things to consider as you make your food and menu plans.

A refrigerator or cooler is a must! Depending on how you arrange things, you could need a cool place to store food before and after the meal. Since there will be a lot of outdoor activities planned, you will also need a cool place to store beverages for your employees and their family members.

We have found that the best way to keep the drinks cold and handy is by icing them down in several coolers. The coolers are then placed in strategic places throughout the area. This ensures that your employees and their families stay hydrated as they participate in the fun activities.

Keep the menu simple. The simpler you keep the meal, the more time there is for fun and relaxation. A cheap and quick menu could include a variety of sandwiches, hamburgers and hotdogs, pickles, chips, dip, and fresh raw veggies.

If you want to make the meal a little more substantial, you can go with a standard picnic menu. This could consist of items such as fried chicken, barbecue, potato salad, coleslaw, green beans, etc. Be sure to serve a variety of vegetables, raw or cooked, in case there are people who don’t or can’t eat meat.

Consider the kids. Keep in mind the special needs and likes of the employee’s children. Most parents would like to reduce their children’s intake of things such as carbonated drinks, drinks with caffeine, An example of this would be fried chicken, barbecue, hamburgers, and hotdogs. You may also want to consider having special beverages for the children. Drinks to consider for children could include milk, soy milk, a variety of fruit juices, and of course, water. Moms and Dads will appreciate the fact that you have something on the menu that is especially for their little darlings.

Who’s cooking? For this summer event, you will probably want to hire someone to do the cooking for you. By hiring a caterer, you ensure that the food is prepared/ stored according to health standards and no one will get “stuck” on grill duty. A good caterer will also clean up after the meal and store the leftovers for you.

Make clean-up easy. Adding trashcans throughout the entire area will help keep trash off the ground and make clean-up easier. Make sure there are several large, lined trashcans in the eating area. You will want to also enlist the help of someone to check on the trashcans throughout the day.

When planning the menu for your event, keep these suggestions in mind. By addressing these items early, you will be less likely to be surprised by the unexpected. The more organized your event planning is, the more successful the event will be.

Company Events: Family Fun Day – Choosing A Location

You’ve decided to plan a company sponsored family fun day. A family fun day can be the perfect way to bring everyone together. Here are a few things to consider as you choose your event location.

Having an appropriate location is important. You will want to find a location that has something for everyone. A nearby state park, amusement park, or city park or fairground is probably your best bet.

State Parks

State parks offer things such as group shelters for picnics, cottages for anyone who wants to stay overnight, swimming areas, places to fish, hiking trails, and even special shows. Most state parks sponsor shows and special events during the summer months. Of course, the types of special events would depend on the focus of the park; but, events could include fishing contests, music concerts, arts and craft shows, night hikes, historical reenactments, cultural events, star gazing, etc.

When considering a state park for your family fun day location, be sure to look at their calendar of events. If you see an event close to the time you would like to hold your family fun day, you may want to make sure your event coincides with the park’s activity. This is a wonderful choice if your employees appreciate the outdoors or scenic environments.

Amusement Parks

Amusement parks often offer group rates on rides and lodging. Many also offer catering and planning assistance, as well as a private picnic area. If you choose not to go with a catering plan, you might consider asking about meal vouchers.

When you choose to hold your event at an amusement park, look for a park with a variety of fun activities that will appeal to children and adults. These activities might include things such as rides, games, arts and crafts, concerts, shows, and a variety of shops.

Local Parks and Fairgrounds

Local parks and fairgrounds are a great choice if you are looking for versatility. Many parks and fairgrounds have picnic shelters, playgrounds, walking trails, large open spaces, picnic tables and grills, and buildings for rent. Depending on your area, some of these parks may also have access to tennis courts, pools, and lakes.

Choosing to make use of local parks and fairgrounds is a good choice for many reasons. Your employees will most likely have a relatively short distance to drive and be familiar with the event area. The children spend less time cooped up in the car. It’s less likely that anyone will get lost while trying to follow the driving directions. This is a definite plus for families with children.

There are so many location possibilities available to you! It’s important to choose the right setting for your group. Knowing their general likes and dislikes will help you choose the right location for your family fun day. No matter where you choose to hold your event, make sure that your location offers something for everyone.
